Music at The Minster
Music is very important to us at The Minster School. We have a wonderful school choir who enjoy performing in school, at Warminster Hospital, at The Minster Church, at Wren House and many other venues in and around Warminster. Through our daily collective worship and regular church services, singing becomes a powerful way of bringing the school community together in song. We enjoy sharing our wonderful singing with our parents and wider community through the different events and festivals we take part in.
Children in every class have a dedicated weekly music lesson. We use the Charanga music scheme to listen to and appreciate a wide range of musical styles. Children learn to sing a song, explore pulse and rhythm, and then play the song using a range of instruments. They also have lots of opportunites to compose their own melodies and rhythms.
Each week, children in Year 3, 4 and 5 also receive a recorder lesson. This provides them with the opportunity to explore pitch and rhythm and start to learn music notation.
At the end of every summer term we have a 'Summer Sizzler' concert and all of our musicians have the chance to perform. There are also lots of performances through the year to show our musical creations within the school, as well as our nativities in Hedgehogs, Squirrels and Rabbits plus our end of year performance from Y6 children which all showcase their singing.
Children can also have guitar lessons in school and we love to celebrate the achievements of children who have lessons in many different instruments out of school.
We enjoy welcoming professional musicians to our school to provide opportunities for live music. We have had performances from the Welsh Brass Trio, Medieval Music Duo and many others in previous years.
